An independent journal about the Gannett Co. and the news industry's digital transition
Paper is NOT dead, n'est-ce pas? http://www.youtube.com/embed/V_gOZDWQj3Q?rel=0
Gannett is making its presence felt at the former Belo stations: KGW in Portland is selling its news helicopter and will now share a chopper with another station across town.
They should fire management and have goats on the ground doing traffic......Hows 1-465 south doing this rush hour? Not Baaaaaaaaaaaad!
Oh, the cuts are coming. Helicopters are horrendously expensive to operate anyway. Whatever Gannett can cut or do without, they will - that's for sure. So, this is what you've got to look forward to Belo! Isn't it so awesome to work for a company like The Big Shiny! Have fun!
I heard that deal chicken has merged with clipper magazine. Can anyone confirm? What will this mean for both parties?
New company called Chicken Clipper........They will just be doing coupons for wing joints now.
Do we still have Deal Chicken reps?
Interesting new partnership: http://www.4-traders.com/GANNETT-CO-INC-12717/news/Gannett-Co-Inc--MilitaryTimescom-Launches-VA-Loan-Center-17761072/
More misery in Detroit.http://deadlinedetroit.com/articles/7845/free_press_will_lay_off_5_in_newsroom_statements_by_publisher_and_union#.UsyMeLSZadq
Add Deal Chicken to Mom Like Me, Metromix, and other local innovations that died once corporate took them over.
Is Yahoo! still around?
So that's why the big Deal Chicken poster disappeared from the second floor of the APP. Is it fitting that it was hanging up by the toilets? Whooosh!

Yes Clipper and Deal Chicken merger - hell they just pushed many of the Clipper DoubleTake deals to the Deal Chicken site, without telling anyone who already made deals with those clients- http://m.dealchicken.com/jacksonville-fl/16826 all Deal Chicken reps are now selling Digital , PPC, and SEO now for the defunct Gannett Local called G/O Digital
Wow those are some awful deals on that site.
Meanwhile, back in Louisiana, Butterfly flaps ever nearer...
I would love to know if those papers that have been running Butterfly for a few months now have seen their circulation and ad revenue go up because that's what the stated goal was by a NE Wis boss
I suspect it hasn't helped or you would have heard. I think NE Wis went down with the Packers and temperatures.
Gannett closing it's Direct Mail facility in Phoenix (Republic Direct). All but 4 employees being let go.
10:45 a.m.: So how many employees are being let go?
Would love to know more details about this as I remember the beginning of this go, go operation 15 years ago.
At least 10 people are being let go with 4 being relocated to downtown.
newspapers will no longer be a huge monet maker as time goes on, but they will still make money if the Brass put local news in the paper instead of this garbage USAT section. In Indiana, The Star will become the state paper, with a Lafayette, Muncie and Richmond local section, thus they will eliminate more jobs and most likely shut down the Lafayette Printing plant, It is in the works, more info later with facts to back it up
Is it an either/or proposition? Newspapers already put AP, NYT, McClatchy, Reuters, Dow Jones, etc. in their pages, and yet they still also include local news in their pages. Will it be any different using USAT for national stories instead of AP?
We've heard this for weeks, with never a fact to back any of it up. Either provide facts or stop spreading the same rumor.
If you work for Gannett, their is no such thing as a Rumor. Ca mon MAN, Due time my friends
9:09AM- true statement indeed!
That makes no sense. Using your logic, I could say that if you work for Gannett, your balls will drop off, and that would not be a rumor.
If you work for Gannett, you will have a pair and find a new job, or continue to post rumors on this web site....So my balls are intact and the Gannett pressure is off for ever, My balls are intact and living life GCI free
USA Today tries bold new content generating idea.http://www.poynter.org/latest-news/mediawire/235439/usa-today-apologizes-for-lifting-weather-map/
USA Today ain't the only one. ESPN has a corporate policy of taking credit for stories that originate elsewhere.
David Callaway: "Mr. Bateman’s map was an inspiration for an effort that fell short of our newsroom publishing standards. As soon as we realized our oversight, we took immediate action to correct our mistake. We apologized to Mr. Bateman and are addressing the situation both internally and externally to give the artist the credit he deserves and to set the record straight for our readers. We do not take these incidents lightly."Blatant plagiarism is an "oversight"?
That's correct. Just this morning, ESPN took credit for the sun rising and the air we breathe.
GCI closes above $30 per share for the first time since November 2007.
Great! Now my options at $80 are worth less shit than they were before!
Could be a $40 stock by end of year. For as much shit as management puts its people through, I'm in.
And watch it crash and burn suckers
Price seems to be sagging today.
Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
